How do I tell my barber what kind of haircut I want?

The hairstylist-client relationship is just like dating. Vibe is everything. Is there some form communicative cohesion? Can you guys come together on a shared vision, do you somewhat understand one another?
If your stylist or barber isn't taking your consultation and input serious that shows a complete disregard for your desires and a lack of listening skills. As a hairsylist I abide by the rule of thumb that past the consultation period i should be doing a majority of the listening and my client should be talking- and as i get to know them more my suggestions for their hair care may change per their lifestyle or upcoming events.
So do your own due dilligence as a client and look up terms like "men's haircut, men's hair styles" etc and find some images you like and don't be too particular. Keep an eye out in movies with actors you like who have similar hair types to yours and i cannot stress this enough: pictures, pictures, pictures.
So in summation your game plan should be:
-Have a general idea of what you want inspired by images from the internet or movies
-Don't overthink explanation to your barber or stylist
-Feel out the vibe between you and your potential stylist and think to yourself, does this flow or are they not understanding me?
-Shop around stylists, if it doesn't feel right don't go with them
-Trust your gut, and be willing to work with them over time and give corrective feedback should you choose to stick with that stylist.
Investing in how you show up for the world is an important aspect of being the person you want to be. A hard fact of life is that first impressions are impactful, and we live in a highly judgmental society where your looks dictate how you are treated and perceived.
